COBA EXCURSIONS
The mystical ruined city of Coba was once the most important and even largest city of the Yucatan Peninsula,
it probably had well over 50,000 inhabitants in its heyday until 200 BC,
it is also the oldest ruined city here on the peninsula.
Those who climb the 42 meter high pyramid there will be rewarded with a breathtaking view
over the green sea and the dense jungle.
Coba is a relatively young excavation site, very little exposed, the path from the entrance to the pyramid are just under 2 km,
you can decide whether you want to explore the facility by bike or on foot
or be chauffeured on a "triciclo", a cargo tricycle, in the shade of tropical trees.
In Coba it is pleasant to walk because you are always in the shade, only when you climb the pyramid you are exposed to the sun.
The visit to these ancient Mayan ruins hidden in the jungle can be combined with other excursions.
A visit to the cenotes for refreshment is also part of the adventure.
Status June 2023:
Since 2020 there is no permission for tourists to climb the pyramid,
However, negotiations are underway with the relevant authorities and it is expected that by 2023 this restriction, which was imposed during the pandemic, will be lifted.
