ISLA CONTOY & ISLA MUJERES EXCURSIONS
Isla Contoy is a tiny island with dense vegetation, uninhabited by humans,
mainly overgrown by mangroves and populated by thousands of birds from all over the Mexican Caribbean.
It is a breeding ground for several species of sea turtles and home to nearly 3000 frigate birds,
brown pelicans, flamingo colonies, thousands of comorants and nesting place for more than 150 bird species.
Isla Contoy is a protected and declared nature reserve with white dream beaches,
almost a hundred different species of plants and millions of colorful exotic fish in the crystal clear sea around the island.
In the season from the end of April to the end of August whale sharks can also be observed.
The strictly controlled ecotourism to the island, which is only about three square kilometers, allows only 150 visitors a day.
Overnight stays are not allowed and there is no fresh water there.
COURSE OF THE EXCURSION:
In this day trip we take the boat from Punta Sam and start with the snorkeling trip at Isla Contoy.
On the island itself we stay about 3 hours, the stay on the island Isla Mujeres on the way back takes about an hour.
Reservations for this excursion should be made well in advance.

RECOMMENDATION:
- Please bring enough money for personal expenses such as souvenirs or alcoholic beverages.
- We have drinks in the minivan, nevertheless it is recommended to personally carry 1 l of water on your body when entering the archaeological sites.
- Headgear is recommended.
- Don't forget your swimsuit.
- It is not recommended to go on tour with slippers.
- In no case apply sunscreen before the tour or only biodegradable.
- In the freshwater cenotes on the Yucatan Peninsula, strict attention is paid to water quality, as some of this water is still drunk.
- The chemicals used in conventional sunscreen destroy coral and are harmful to marine life.
Therefore, sunscreen is no longer allowed in Mexico in many natural parks of the Riviera Maya and also on Cozumel.
